Centre of Peace Studies and Development
North Kordofan State, in which the university is located is one of a high privacy, it represents a junior-Sudan. Many ethnicities from Sudan and the countries of West Africa are fused, making it a land of tolerance and coexistence. The state it was very impressed with the implications of hotbeds of conflicts around it and in its south. In the state of South Kordofan there is Abyei region, which is still hanging after the secession of Southern Sudan as a sovereign state and in the West there are Darfur states. This is beside the frictions which have started appearing from time to time between farmers and herders on the grass and water. All these have forced University of Kordofan, to establish of the Centre of Peace Studies and Development in 2007 in order to spread the culture of peace and conflict resolution using the prevailing norms and traditions in the community and mobilizing all community sectors to tolerance. Taking advantage of cultural diversity, ethnic, religious, and using local customs of the community in its different tribes which seem to be a factor in the structure of the whole Sudanese community the objectives can be achieved. These factors are taken to strengthen the community, besides; the centre coordinates with research units in and outside Sudan, with respect to cross-line situations. It also provides training and Enlightening sessions for the leaders of local communities.
